- Perform design work on both customer projects and development projects.
- Attend specification meetings with global customers and providing authoritative contribution regarding the mechanical design aspects of projects.
- Take responsibility for all the mechanical aspects of a project and providing technical guidance to internal and external customers as necessary.
- Communicate with other design engineers (mechanical and electrical) during the design of projects to ensure that these disciplines are fully coordinated.
- Make occasional visits to both UK and international destinations as necessitated by the customer project or development project requirements.
- Contribute creative ideas; producing concepts, producing design schemes.
- Produce parts lists, assembly drawings and detail drawings.
- Complete engineering design on time to the project plan.
- Be aware of cost targets in design, purchasing, and assembly.
- Document and archive all project related material.
- Carry out risk assessments on machinery and assemblies of machinery.
- Advise on mechanical Health and Safety aspects of the product range.
- Keep abreast of developments in UK and European safety legislation and attend courses as necessary.
- Attend project meetings and update the Project Managers on engineering progress.
- Liaise with all departments to ensure projects are completed on time and to budget.
- Provide assistance to Assembly personnel during the build phase of a project and assisting in commissioning.
- Provide support to Sales and the Applications Manager regarding concept drawings, carton appraisals, design hours, parts costs and assembly hours.
Knowledge and Skills:
The job holder will hold the following knowledge and skills:
- Experienced in the design of electro-mechanical mechanisms and equipment.
- Advanced 3D modelling skills (preferably Solid Works) Sheet metal an advantage.
- Demonstrable skill in design for manufacture and assembly meeting cost targets.
- The ability to read and produce 2D production drawings applying GD&T as necessary
- Able to perform confirmatory engineering calculations and analysis as required.
- Experience of the interactions and interfaces with electrical engineering.
- Confident to take the technical lead in a team on occasional larger projects.
- Knowledge of the machinery directive and UKCA/CE marking.
- Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting ability
- Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Integrated) Minimum HNC
- Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in a Design/Development Engineering role.
