Position Summary:
The HSE Specialist works with the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Department to plan, direct, and implement Syntegon’s HSE and Quality management programs and to ensure a positive, safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment. They are responsible for compliance with all safety, environmental and quality regulatory agencies. While having a general knowledge company-wide, this position will focus on compliance monitoring and reporting in all areas of the company. This position would also respond to emergency situations when they arise and will support HSE and Quality operations and staff to foster a zero-tolerance culture and ensure compliance.
Essential Functions:
- Maintaining accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems
- Facilitate organization and leadership development efforts to address the root cause of HSE related issues. Coach management and employees at all levels to ensure compliance with all HSE program expectations and applicable federal & state laws
- Conducting risk assessments related to jobs performed by employees and suggests risk mitigation strategies through the Job Safety Analysis process
- Recommending and implementing appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomics
- Training and assisting others (managers, employees, etc.) to complete their safety and compliance responsibilities (audits, follow safety rules, etc.)
- Conducting appropriate inspections and audits, and ensuring corrective actions are monitored and documented
- Maintains employee files (HSE related training, incident investigations)
- Enforcing compliance of HSE and transportation programs
- Completing and documenting all regulatory compliance activities through the HSE Calendar according to regulatory deadlines
- Completing, documenting, and submitting required HSE reports and recordkeeping information
- Conducting HSE training as needed, including new employee and contractor orientation
- Responding to and investigating events including injuries and near-miss events. Drive closure of effective corrective / preventive actions, as assigned
- Providing managers with regulatory information and direction to ensure compliance with external / internal audits and Federal, State, Local EHS regulations
- Preparing environmental compliance reports and permits
- Updating Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Respond to emergency situations when they arise
- Handling employee concerns / suggestions as they relate to HSE
- Representing the company with regulatory agencies such as OSHA
- Perform other duties, as assigned, in support of the HSE Strategic Plan
- Participating in company HSE committees
